Want To Know How To Ruin Your Case?  Ask Your Lawyer To Get Involved In Your Medical Care

There is no doubt more of us today are without health insurance then ever before.  While some attorneys keep lists of doctors who will treat you on a lien and refer you to those doctors, I do not do this because of one extremely important reason - CREDIBILITY. As a former insurance defense attorney, I always asked personal injury victims who referred them to their doctors and how did they pay for their treatment.  I would then depose the doctors under oath and find out how much of their business/patients/money were coming from that plaintiff's attorney.   Once I showed the business relationship between the doctor and lawyer, the result was almost always that the plaintiff's attorney, the doctor, and ultimately the person who was injured lost all credibility in front of a jury.

Instead of relying on your attorney for medical advice and referrals, treat your situation just like you were hurt but not in a car accident.  Ask your primary care doctor for a referral.

Something else a lot of my clients are unaware of is the "gold standard" for doctors - Board Certification.  The American Board of Medical Specialties is the governing body responsible for certifying doctors.  In addition to all the requirements all doctors must meet before practicing medicine, Board Certification also requires ongoing education beyond medical school, specialty training, and periodic written and oral examinations to demonstrate competency.  Finally, a doctor must get recertified every 6-10 years.
